Our Story
West Side Cats first opened its doors in 2008. We are a non-profit, no-kill rescue and adoption facility in Youngstown, Ohio, founded by individuals who didn't want to volunteer for kill shelters any longer. We outgrew our first location, moved to a larger facility in 2010, and most recently transitioned into our current location in 2018. With the exception of those being cared for in our clinic, all kitties await adoption in colorful, open rooms with plenty of beds and toys. Our shelter has several climbing trees, including a huge wooden tree custom made for us. Although we primarily serve Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, people have come from other states to adopt our kitties. Every year we place between 300–600 cats and kittens up for adoption.
Some of our kitties are shy and/or not comfortable with young children. We therefore do not permit kids under the age of 10 in our areas where the cats and kittens are located. We do not want them to be stressed. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Fall FUNDRAISER BASKET RAFFLE!
🍁🍂🧺 🐾 WEST SIDE CATS is having a FALL FUNDRAISER BASKET RAFFLE on Saturday - October 5th at Davidsons Restaurant/Tavern located at 3636 Canfield Rd., Canfield, OH 44406 from 10:30am-2pm! There will be a wide variety of baskets to try to win PLUS a 50/50 RAFFLE! 🍁🍂🧺

THE AFTER HOURS SHY KITTY KREW
❗️🩷🐾🐱 Due to the large amount of shy kitties that West Side Cats located at 4305 Market St. in Youngstown, OH 44512 currently has, who are waiting, and who have been waiting for awhile for their FOREVER HOMES….”THE SHY KITTY KREW” is a new program offered by one of our volunteers named Sheri starting next week! ❗️🩷🐾🐱
🥹💝The shy and bashful kitties tend to feel more comfortable and less timid after the shelter closes and it’s not so noisy and busy….so they come out more and interact and play, however because the shelter is closed, they are not getting the exposure that they need in order for people to see their true personalities, so they can get adopted! 🥹💝
⭐️🐈 How it works: A list of shy kitties will be posted weekly and you are truly interested in adopting one of our shy kitties that is on the list….you can CALL OR TEXT SHERI AT 330-881-6672 to make an appointment for a Tuesday between 6-7pm…❗️PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SHELTER TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!❗️

NO APPOINTMENT IS NECCESSARY TO COME IN AND MEET ANY OF OUR CATS OR KITTENS…PLEASE JUST STOP IN DURING OPEN SHELTER HOURS TO MEET THEM! (Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays 4pm-6pm and Wednesdays & Fridays 2pm-6pm).
WE DO NOT DO ONLINE APPLICATIONS…you MUST come in to the shelter to meet the cat or kitten and then fill out the Adoption Application there at the shelter.
KITTEN ADOPTION FEE is $120 (Special Adootion fee offered when adopting kittens in pairs)….this adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter, Dewormer, Flea Treatment, FeLV/FIV Test, Fel-O-Vac Innoculation, Collar with Identification, Rabies Vaccination, and Microchip. If you need any clarification on what the vaccinations are, please visit the “FAQ” section on our site.
